This is what I learned today - eavesdrop
An eavesdrip is the area around the house that receives the water run off from the eaves. An eavesdrop is a small hole in a wall used by those inside to listen in on people outside the building waiting for admission (in order to prepare for potentially unkind house guests).
An eavesdropper is one who stands in the eavesdrip in order to overhear private communications.
